Description
Rammed by a float carrying freight cars, S-12 was barely able to reach the Brooklyn Navy Yard, her bow badly smashed. The submarine was leaving the Navy Yard and was a short distance out on the East River when the float hove into sight, and before the submarine could steer clear, she was hit by the float. This photograph shows the rammed submarine in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, 28 October 1926. Courtesy of the San Francisco Maritime Museum, San Francisco, California, 1969.
