Description
The submarine USS S-51 was sunk off Block Island Rhode Island in September 1925 after it collided with a steamer and was raised from the bottom of Long Island Sound and towed to the Brooklyn Navy Yard. There were 35 lives lost in the disaster and the bodies were removed from chambers of the ill-fated craft. This photo shows S-51, with flag at half-mast, arriving at the Yard, June-July 1926.
