Description
Canister that held the cremated remains of Ms. Eugenia Farrar, a singer (#59654). Sent from Ferncliff Crematory in Hartsdale, New York to the Deforest Pioneers (an amateur radio club to which Ms. Farrar belonged) to the attention of Mr. Oliver A. Wyckoff, Sr. Secretary Treasurer. Ms. Farrar was the first singing voice to be heard over the radio, in October 1907. Ms. Farrar sang from a location in Manhattan and the transmission was received by Mr. Wyckoff as a young naval engineer at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Her remains were later interred at Greenwood Cemetery on October 6, 2010. The canister and cardboard box remain in the collection.
