Wood Works explored the diverse creative output by the tenants of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, from traditional woodworking to new technologies for working in wood. Woodworking has a long and rich history at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Once a hub of wooden shipbuilding, today the Yard is a thriving industrial park where craftsmen work with wood to make custom architectural interiors, cabinets, lamps, cutting boards and more.
The exhibit featured designers, artists, entrepreneurs, and craftsmen working in the medium of wood. Shown together, their work conveys the diversity of both the material itself and the work being done at the Yard today. Wood Works ran from January 2017 through May 2017 and was curated by Executive Director for Exhibits and Programs Aileen Chumard. 18 tenants participated in this show. It was the inaugural exhibit in the Yard Works space at BLDG 92. - Scope and Content
