Edward T. Steiniger, born April 30, 1942, was a member of the United States Marine Corps who, as a Lance Corporal, was stationed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard circa 1962-1964. The Marine detachment during this time was charged with the security of the Yard’s gates, operation of the Third Naval District Brig, and other security functions. The Marine Corps Brig was located in Building 14, near the Sands Street entrance to the Yard.  Steiniger was also a member of the USS America (CV-66) Carrier Veterans Association.
Scope and Content
This collection includes three photographs of Steiniger and others as part of the Third Naval District Marine Corp detachment, including the brig circa 1964, five photographs of Steiniger marching with the USS America Carrier Veterans Association in New York City’s 1996 Veterans Day Parade, and two photographs of the USS America (CV-66). There is also a Marine barracks program outlining the history of the Marines at the Brooklyn Navy Yard circa 1963, a menu for dinner from November 10, 1962 commemorating the 187th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps, and an Armed Forces Liberty pass dated August 9, 1962.
