- John Oropallo was born on June 6, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York where he was raised and attended high school. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 31, 1943 and served for the duration of World War II. After the war, Oropallo started as an apprentice at the Brooklyn Navy Yard where he worked from 1946 until 1964. He married Constance Fugalli on December 2, 1944.
- Scope and Content
- This collection consists of material used by John Oropallo during his employment at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Items include a Sheetmetal Information manual issued by the Apprentice School at the New York Naval Shipyard, a Navy Stock List of General Stores dated 1960 for Group 19 – Ships, Small raft, Pontoon, and Floating Docks and Group 20 – Ship and Marine Equipment, and a Standard Data Manual for Shop 17 Sheetmetal Shop dated 1958. There is also a sheetmetal manual, circa 1956, consisting of typical notes, schematics, and calculation cheat sheets. Materials also include assorted sheet metal information sheets and drawings.
